Passing The Pre-Employment Test

Pre-employment testing is done based on an assessment that provides measurable evidence of job candidates' capabilities. Testing a candidate prior to their recruitment has become increasingly common among employers today, in a real effort to prevent costly hiring mistakes. Earlier they used to depend on interviews - but nowadays in addition to interviewing candidates, employers conduct tests that justify the candidate's skills.

Pre-employments skill tests are based on criteria such as skill aptitude, mathematics, visualization and grammar. Each test is designed to analyze candidates' capabilities for a certain position.

If you are facing a pre-employment test, don't panic - you can by following some simple tips:

Passing The Pre-Employment Test

Preparation

Candidates nowadays are smart and highly skilled. In actuality, there is little that you as a candidate can do to improve your score. Obviously, you can't prepare for the same test that some other company gave you, as each company has its own pre-screening process, especially the logic and the skills test.

Skill tests are usually given to those candidates who need to have specific skills to perform their jobs. For example, these tests are commonly conducted for those candidates who apply for jobs such as typist or editor. To do well on tests like these, you would need to practice typing and editing, as the tests will be based on these skills.

Logic tests are usually given to test a candidate's thinking and analyzing capacity. Larger companies judge a person's team spirit and problem-solving skills through these tests. Logic tests are also given by some companies in an effort to judge a candidate's character and knowledge. The best way to prepare for these tests is by practicing sample tests given on career-related websites.

Be Realistic

The best weapon to pass the pre-employment test is honesty. You might be tempted to make up false answers or give scenarios that you have never been in. Don't do this. Pre-employment tests are designed to analyze a person's caliber. Lying is easy but pointless, and it certainly won't get you the job.

Time

When you are taking the test, unless you have been given a specified time to finish, you can take your own time to solve the questions. Don't rush; instead, do the questions that you know the answers to first. Rushing will only increase your stress and make you prone to make errors. If the test is conducted by a person, then do not hesitate to ask them for clarification if you face some difficulty in understanding the questions.

Finally, always double-check your answers.

Be Optimistic

Always think positively and try not to be anxious. On the day of the test, get there early and relax. Before you attempt the test, remember that having a positive attitude is half the battle.

Pre-employment testing is now routine for many companies in all fields of work. By following the tips above, you can ensure that you will pass with flying colors!

How To Become a Computer Technician

So you want to be a Computer Technician, but you don't know how? Well guess what, I am going to tell you how.

First things first, I am blunt and to the point. I hate typing and thinking about grammar, that is why I went into the Technology field.

I have over 10 years experience in web design, computer networking, hardware, software, java programming, Apple & IBM (pc) format computers, telephone work, home theatres etc, etc, etc, & I make a lot of money doing. So basically I know what I am talking about & I am going to give you some advice that took me 10 long, hard years to learn.

How To Become a Computer Technician

1. MOST IMPORTANT: LEARN how to find the right answers. This can be true for ANY field, ANY person works in. You do not need to know everything, and guess what, if you spent the next 10 years reading, going to school & obtaining certifications, you still wouldn't know all there is to know in the field of Technology. But if you can figure out what resources will help you find a solution for you the fastest, then you are on your way.

2. Go to school and/or get certifications. Of course you need to learn about computers, software, hardware etc to become a computer technician. Find something that fits you, something that makes you excited to go. 4 year schools are not for every one, so make sure they are right for you if you choose to go. In my 4 years in college the only thing I learned to do is program at Level II in Java (a blind monkey could program at that level) and drink a lot of beer. 2 year schools are good because the get straight to the point about the actual jobs you will be doing out in the REAL world. (I was offered a teaching position at one of these 2 year schools at the ripe old age of 25, I laughed in their face & said no because of the salary they were offering). Certifications are important regardless if you get a 2 or 4 year degree. They tell other people that have NO CLUE about technology that you, indeed have a clue about technology

Did you follow that?

A couple of certifications that I highly recommend are the A+, Networking + and any Microsoft Support Certification.

3. Be patient, with yourself and the people you work with. You will always be learning if you become a computer technician. The average lifespan for a particular model of technology (ie computers) is about 2 years. Meaning as soon as you buy it, it is OLD. Things change everyday in Technology and you have to keep up with it!

4. Have a Positive Attitude! Remember, when people call you or you are dispatched out to work on someone's computer, TV etc, they usually are frustrated. Most people will try to fix the issue themselves before calling anyone because they are cheap. By the time you or I get there they are ready to cry. A positive and friendly attitude will go an EXTREMELY LONG WAY. You will be their savior and they will tell all their friends about you. This point might be the most difficult, especially in Technology because not very many people understand how it works and because our lives are so dependent on it.

That is it, 4 simple steps.

Can you handle it?

These are the 4 things I have tried to do over the last 10 years. Trust me, I am no genius, not by a long shot. But I figured out how to find the right answer for the problem, combined with an education, some certifications and the right attitude, I have people knocking down my door for my services.

Read this article a couple of times until this info really sinks in. This advice works so use it!

Stop sitting there and get busy!

For more information on How To Become a Computer Technician, check out a couple of this sites I have listed in my bio, those will help.

Good Luck!

Welding Certification Tests For Aviation and Aerospace Repair Stations

American Welding Society D17.1 "Specification for Fusion Welding for Aerospace Applications" is the industry standard for becoming a certified welder for fabricating or repairing aircraft parts.

Back in the day, MIL std 5021 was the standard and cluster welds of tubing spliced to plate where the standard test given to certify welders.

Then MIL std 1595a came along and addressed different metal types and newer processes like electron beam and laser. Mil std 1595a was later renamed AMS 1595a with no changes in the document other than name.

Welding Certification Tests For Aviation and Aerospace Repair Stations

AWS D17.1 is the latest and greatest specification for certifying welders and serves not only as a standard for certifying welders, but also a specification for all welding processes used in the aviation and aerospace industries.

Basically here is how the welding certification part works:

Metals are categorized into 8 categories or groups. (1. carbon low alloy, 2. iron based stainless steels, 3. nickel alloys, 4. aluminum, 5. magnesium, 6. titanium, 7. cobalt alloys, 8. refractory alloys like columbium, tantalum etc.)

metal groups 1,2,and 3 are further separated into a and b categories with the b category considered the most difficult to weld.

Groove welds and fillet welds are used to certify welders. Usually a test joint in the.032" -.050" thickness range is used for the welding certification tests but AWS D17.1 has provisions for all thicknesses of metals.

Usually 2 inch by 5 inch plates are used for the groove weld tests in this thickness.

Groove welds are often x rayed, but bend testing is sometimes used

Fillet welds (tee joints) are required in order for the welder to be qualified to weld a fillet weld below.063"

Groove welds qualify for fillet welds too for everything over.063"

Tips for passing an aerospace welding certification test:

Make sure your vision is good. ( AWS D17.1 even requires a vision test) Use extra magnification for the thin stuff. Even with good vision, seeing a puddle on inconel 718 that is.032" thick can be difficult. If you cant see it, you cant weld it. Keep your tungsten electrodes sharp and clean Keep as close an arc and you dare without dipping your wick. If you dip your wick, stop and change electrodes. Clean the metal and file the sheared edge of any groove weld, especially aluminum, magnesium, and titanium. Follow the WPS if one is provided. Sometimes the test inspector looks for your ability to follow technical instructions as well as your ability to pass a welding test.

Pipe Welding Certification Tests Made a Little Simpler

What welding certification test do I need to pass in order to get a pipe welder job?

That might seem like a reasonable question to someone outside of the welding world. But to someone who has been taking welding certification tests for 30 years, It is a loaded question... Loaded, because the answer is always long and drawn out and the person asking the question always glazes over before I am done.

Is it really that complicated? Yes it is just that complicated. But I will try to boil some things down so you don't glaze over too before I am done answering.

Pipe Welding Certification Tests Made a Little Simpler

First of all there are literally hundreds of different pipe welding tests that are used for pipe welding certification tests. But there are 2 of them that are probably used more commonly than all the rest.

What are they? The 2 most commonly used pipe welding tests are 2" and 6" schedule 80 pipe done in the 6g position.

If you learn to weld these 2 joints, you will take a huge step to being hired as a pipe welder.

Is it really that easy? Just 2 weld tests?

Sadly, No. What you need to be able to do is to weld these 2 joints several different ways.
For Carbon steel pipe welding tests you need to be able to do: Tig root pass with 7018 fill, Tig all the way, and 6010 root pass with 7018 stick fill. And for Stainless Steel pipe welding certification tests you need to able to do: Tig all the way, and open butt Tig root with Stainless Steel stick fill.

So that makes what?.. about 10 different welding tests? thats 5 different combinations for the 2" joint and 5 for the 6" joint. I will stop now. It is starting to get complicated.

These are typical welding tests given for welding jobs for paper mills, power plants, refineries, as well as various other construction and maintenance jobs.
