How to pass CCNA: 6 Steps to Success

CCNA is one of the most respected Associate level Certification in the world today. Getting a CCNA will definitely help you to get a better job or at least get your foot into Professional Networking Field. When you meet a person that has CCNA degree you will notice that he or she knows something about Networking. This article will describe and give you some tips on how to achieve CCNA. I did it so can you, so lets get started. 1. Getting ready mentally: First thing you need to do is mentally prepare your self. What I mean by that is that you have to seriously think about on why are you getting CCNA and why do you want to be CCNA certified. You have to firmly decide and believe that you will get CCNA within next 3-6 months or so. Try to budget your study time well. If you a very social person (like me) you will have to give up some of your social time for the next couple of months. Your friends and family will understand. Trust me: it is well worth it. Once you get that cert you can make up for the lost social time. 2. Getting the right study material: Second thing you need to do is to get proper study material. There is lot of controversy around this and some people go overboard with study guides, books, simulators and such. I believe that two Cisco Press books INTR and ICND by Wendell Odom are enough as far as the books go. They are really well written and easy to follow. So sign up at [http://www.ciscopress.com] and get those two books. Make sure you got the latest version. You will also want to get some kind of a simulator that will let you practice commands and that will also build up your confidence. You can buy real equipment but that could get expensive. I highly recommend that you become member of Cisco Certification forum. Forum is huge and you will get lot of helpful answers, tips and advices pretty quick. (I know I did) 3. Approach and diving deep: There are many different approaches to studying from books but I will tell you about mine. This step will take the most of your studying time. -Before you even start reading any of the books I suggest learning binary math (really easy) and subnetting so you can do it in your sleep. http//www.learntosubnet.com is excellent resource. -read both books casually once from front to cover (make sure you cover introduction and practice questions too). This will give you good overview. -Install both CD’s that came with books and practices some of the questions. Don’t worry if you get lot of them wrong. -Now, you will ready both books again but this time you will have to read it to truly understand the concept and how things work. Master one chapter and do questions from just that chapter until you sick of it. Then move to the next chapter. -Once you mastered all chapters do lot of questions and labexercises. Those two CD’s will give you ability to do that. 4. Schedule the test: You’re not done yet with studying but it is really good to schedule the test after you completed step 3 in this article. Here is why: If you schedule the test a month in advance right after you completed step 3, you won’t be able to slack and make excuses not to study hard until tests and it is also good to give your self a headline. I have seen people working on their CCNA for 2 years. They master one or two chapters, then they rest for 2 two months and right when they think they are ready for the next chapter, they forget what they have learned in the first chapter. 5. Read both books one more time to refresh. This is optional, but I highly recommend reading the both books one more time. If you read both books in a three week that will give you one more week before the test to cram which is subject of the next step. So by now you should’ve read both books three times over. I also suggest re-reading questions and answers from both books one more time. 6. Cram, Cram and Cram -This is the last part of your study and there is no turning back. Deadline is hanging around your neck like a noose. You should cram Q&A for no more then 10 days before you take the test. At this point it is really important that you get fresh and different questions then those included with your CD’s. Some people claims that brain dumps or Q&A are bad and evil. I tend to disagree with that. At this point you already firmly grasped the whole CCNA concept and Q&A will only help you. So get some Q&A exam question and cram, cram and cram them for a week. Don’t use books or CD’s anymore. There is no looking back. No worries, material from the books will return to you at the right time. -Don’t do any studying a night or a day before the test. Go out with your wife or significant other to a dinner and a movie. Relax. It is very important to relax and get a good night sleep since one of those testing boots could really be intimidating. If you did all the steps above and read books with intention to understand the topics and how stuff works (no pun intended), and not just to pass the test you should be more then ready by now. We came to an end of this short tutorial. I hope this article give you at least some ideas on how to approach studying for CCNA. If you fail CCNA first time, don’t get discouraged. You will have more knowledge and confidence when you attempt it the next time then the person who passed it on the first try. Whatever approach you take I wish you good luck and prosper career.

8 Basic Ways of Preventing Deforestation

There have been so many discussions on the effects of deforestation in our environment. These effects range from alarming to catastrophic. We have read newspaper headlines that show the wreckage that natural disasters have done. Flashfloods have not only damaged millions of properties all over the globe but it has also collected lives. Landslides have done the same. These two are the results of nature's balance that has been disturbed--they are the effects of deforestation.

Deforestation is the act of converting patches of forests to become areas of residence or industry. More and more businessmen are pushing through forests to obtain more land. Environment is sacrificed in exchange for profit. And this is a highly disturbing fact.

As an individual or as a part of the global community, you can do something to help prevent deforestation. Maybe you can't fight off illegal loggers with your bear hands but with some basic ways, you can make a difference--no matter how small. Here's a list:

8 Basic Ways of Preventing Deforestation

1. If deforestation is a negative event, then a positive event should take place to counter its effects--reforestation. Plant trees and begin doing this in your yard. Trees give off oxygen that is essential for human existence and they, in turn, capture the carbon dioxide that humans and animals exhale. Trees also help in containing water in its roots. With this simple act, you are able to prevent soil erosion, which is the root cause of landslides!

2. Use recycled items such as books or pad paper, toilet paper, even shopping bags. If you can, do not waste any of these products so that no new raw material would be required to replace them.

3. If you are a farmer (or if you know someone who works as a farmer), try to rotate your crops. Instead of using a different portion of land each year, why not use the same portion with different crops? This practice also helps in maintaining the fertility of the soil. With the rotation of crops, not only is there a variety on the harvest each year, there is also the possibility of keeping that portion of land for as long as you can.

4. Cut down only the mature trees. Do not kill baby trees. And for every tree that is lost, plant another one as a replacement.

5. Join environmental awareness groups that would help you be an advocate of reforestation. In Washington, specifically in the Washington Middle School, there was a group of students that established a service-learning project. In their project, they asked a penny from each person. They explained that this money would help in buying acres of the rainforest in Amazon. Once this pushes through, no deforestation could take place in that purchased area.

6. There is a report that in Indonesia and Malaysia, more and more trees are cut down to produce palm oil. This massive destruction in the forests of both countries resulted into the loss of habitat for the native orangutans. With the loss of more trees, more animals become homeless. You can't help prevent this altogether but you can limit your consumption of products that contain palm oil such as breads, chocolates, and even some cosmetics such as shampoo, soap or toothpaste. As to your food consumption, you can begin a diet of roasted or boiled foods instead of frying them.

7. Instead of using firewood, use coals to heat up your fireplaces during the winter season. Remember that it takes only a few hours to consume the firewood but it would take years to grow a single tree. Think twice before purchasing firewood again.

8. Support the laws or programs that were made to protect the forests and to stop any form of deforestation. Programs such as the Tropical Forestry Action Plan have done a major difference on the way deforestation is looked at today. This program spearheaded the discussion of tropical deforestation.

It is imperative to know that there is no such thing as a small, insignificant act when it comes to defeating deforestation. No matter how small your deed maybe, the important thing there is 'every act can make a difference'. Deforestation can be prevented and you can be an active force in achieving that.

How to Spot Wrong, Dead-Wrong Answers on the CPC Exam

For more than ten years, instructor Pamela Biffle CPC, CPC-I, CHCC, CHCO has been preparing folks to pass the Certified Professional Coder exam, so we were thrilled when she agreed to share some of her sage advice with us.

Think Like a Teacher

Biffle teaches coders who are fresh out of college classrooms, as well as coders with lots of on-the-job experience who want to boost their careers with a CPC. And despite their inexperience, coders right out of college classes have an initial edge when it comes to the exam, she reports.

How to Spot Wrong, Dead-Wrong Answers on the CPC Exam

That's because folks who've been in school recently have learned to "think like teachers" because their success in class has been tied to how well they can predict the kinds of things their instructors will put on quizzes and exams. But experienced coders - who are more used to the real world - can develop an edge of their own if they spend some time developing CPC exam skills, says Biffle, who devotes most of the classes she teaches for Coding Cert to test taking.

Biffle advises experienced coders to forget the idiosyncratic guidelines from carriers while taking the exam. To answer the CPC questions correctly, you must rely on the official guidelines in your ICD-9 and CPT manuals, and some coders who've been dealing with carriers a lot aren't as familiar with the official guidelines as they need to be to pass the exam.

Can you answer this sample CPC exam question?

When teachers are writing multiple choice exams, they often like to include a choice that's really wrong (a gimme), a choice that's wrong, and a couple choices that are plausible, Biffle explains. And the folks who write the CPC think like teachers too. You can save yourself time during the exam if you eliminate the "wrong, wrong, dead wrong choices right away," she says. As you choose among the more plausible answers, it helps to consider what coding principle the question is trying to test you on.

Let's look at how this works with this simple CPC exam sample question.

Provide the correct ICD-9-CM code for choledocholithiasis with obstruction.

A. 574.50

B. 574.51

C. 574.91

D. 574.90

The correct answer is B. To understand how to get through a question like this quickly, let's turn to the 574.xx section of our ICD-9 manual.

If we look at the pink box under 574 (Cholelithiasis), we read that we use the 5th digit 0 for "without mention of obstruction" and the 5th digit 1 for "with obstruction." Because the question mentions "with obstruction," we immediately have two "wrong, wrong, dead wrong" answers - Answers A and D, which have the 5th digit 0.

A lot of CPC exam questions are trying to get you to look at details in the coding scenario to choose properly among codes. Unlike some doctors' documentation (which can be vague, as seasoned coders know), the exam questions tell you what you need to know to select the right code.

Pipe Welding Certification Tests - UA Welding Tests

The United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) identifies their standard pipe welding tests with the letters UA, a dash, and then a number. Like UA-1, UA-2, etc.

There is a list available that goes all the way to UA-92. That does not mean there are only 92 tests ever given. There are many more possibilities but the Pipe fitters Union (UA) had to go all the way to # 92 to identify the most common pipe tests. However, this does serve as kind of an example to how many possibilities exist for pipe welding certification tests.

With 4 different welding processes used for pipe welding (Gas Metal Arc / GMAW, Flux Core Arc / FCAW, Shielded Metal Arc / SMAW, and Gas Tungsten Arc / GTAW) and several different metal groups being welded (like carbon steel, stainless steel, and even aluminum), its no wonder so many different pipe welding certification tests are required to certify welders for the scope of work being done on a job or job site.

Pipe Welding Certification Tests - UA Welding Tests

ASME Section IX is a commonly referred to document in pipe welding used to determine welder certification requirements as well as qualification limitations.

Some of the common limitations are thickness, position, and diameter of pipe.

For example a welder passing a tig welding certification test on 2 inch schedule 80 pipe in a 6G position is qualified to weld 1 inch and greater diameter pipe, up to 436" thick and in all positions.

But a welder passing a test on 6" schedule 40 in a 6G position is qualified to weld in all positions but only up to.560" thick and only down to 2.875" pipe diameter.

If you are reading this and are wonder what rectal database they pulled these numbers from, I am with you on that. Its seems kind of silly that once you have.560" of filler metal deposited, that you are not qualified to put more.

I am just saying.

Accountant Job Description

An accountant's job entails working to ensure that business firms and individuals are keeping good records and paying taxes properly and on time. Though the accountant job description for some accounting positions may be simple, other accountant job descriptions are not quite as clear because of the number of duties that are required.

In general, an accountant performs vital functions to businesses, as well as individuals, of all types by offering a very wide array of business and accounting services, including public, management and government accounting, as well as internal auditing. These four major fields of accounting, and in addition to having a minimum of a bachelor's degree, each has a separate accountant job description.

1. Public Accountant

Accountant Job Description

A public accountant job description can be summed up in what most people envision as "typical" accountant's work. It involves performing a broad range of accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting activities for their clients, which may be corporations, governments, nonprofit organizations, and individuals. Specialties in public accounting are often chosen. For example, a public accountant may choose to concentrate on tax matters, such as advising companies about the tax advantages and disadvantages of certain business decisions and preparing individual income tax returns. Other public accountants may choose areas such as compensation or employee health care benefits, or may design accounting and data processing systems. Still other public accountants may choose to specialize in auditing financial statements and inform investors and authorities that statements have been correctly prepared and reported. Public accounts are usually Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), and generally own their own businesses or work for public accounting firms.

2. Management Accountant

Another accountant job description is that of a management accountant. Also called a cost, managerial, industrial, corporate, or private account, management accountants record and analyze the financial information of the companies for which they work. The management accountant job description includes a detailed listing of responsibilities, such as budgeting, performance evaluation, cost management, and asset management. Management accountants are often a part of executive teams involved in strategic planning or the development of new products, where they analyze and interpret financial information that corporate executives need in order to make sound business decisions. They also prepare financial reports for other groups, including stock holders, creditors, regulatory agencies, and tax authorities. Management accountants are usually a part of an accounting department, employed a large company, and may work in many areas that may include financial analysis, planning, budgeting, and cost accounting.

3. Government Accountant

A government accountant works in the public sector, maintaining and examining the records of government agencies and auditing private businesses and individuals whose activities are subject to government regulation and/or taxation. This accountant job description, while detailed, is much more specialized. Government accountants are employed by Federal, State, or local governments, and work to guarantee that revenues are received and expenditures are made in accordance with laws and regulations. Those employed by the Federal government may work as Internal Revenue Services agents or in financial management, financial institution examination, or budget analysis and administration.

4. Internal Auditor Accountant

The accountant job description of an internal auditor can basically be summarized by the job title. Internal auditors verify the accuracy of their organization's internal records, and check for mismanagement, waste, or fraud. It is an increasingly important area of accounting, because internal auditors examine and evaluate their firms' financial and information systems, management procedures, and internal controls to ensure that records are accurate and controls are adequate to protect against fraud and waste. They also review company operations, evaluating their efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with corporate policies and procedures, laws, and government regulations. The accountant job description of an internal auditor can vary with different companies, and may include job duties such as electronic data processing, environmental auditing, engineering, legal auditing, insurance reviews, banking, and health care auditing.

Accountants in all four areas can work for a company, or can be employed by an accounting firm, which would in turn be hired by a company for consulting. An accountant can also be self-employed, and provide accounting services to individuals, businesses, or both.

Most accounting jobs include an accountant job description that requires a bachelor's degree, at minimum, in accounting or a related field, and some accountant job descriptions might include the requirement of a master's degree or Certified Public Account (CPA) certification, obtained through a four-part, Uniform CPA Explanation prepared by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). While the two-day CPA examination is rigorous, and only about 25 percent of those taking the exam pass every part they attempt, CPA certification can greatly assist in the rate of pay received, and in most states, the examination can be taken in two parts, which may assist in preparing for and passing the exam.

According to the United States Department of Labor, employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow at a faster than average rate, for all accounting occupations from all accountant job descriptions mentioned, through the year 2014. This is due to an increase in the number of businesses nationwide, changing financial laws and regulations, and increased scrutiny of company finances. In addition to these reasons for new accounting jobs opening up, there will also be a need to replace accountants and auditors who will retire or transfer to other occupations.

The field is also becoming more specialized due to technology and new, accurate accounting and auditing software experience becoming a crucial addition to an accountant job description. An accountant job description may include, in addition to educational and technological requirements, strong interpersonal and communication skills, simply due to the fact that most accountants work on teams with others from different backgrounds, and will need the ability to communicate accounting and financial information clearly and concisely.

Regardless of one's qualifications, competition in the accounting field will remain strong for the most prestigious jobs, as well as for obtaining clients for those accountants that are self-employed.

Pipeline Jobs - Welding Certification For a Pipeline Welder

Here are my 11 suggestions for getting a job as a pipeline welder:
Spend several hours researching welding forums searching on terms like "pipeline jobs", "pipeline welding", and "pipeline welding certification test." You need to get a feel for the pipeline welding industry. If you still want to go for it, decide whether you want to joint a union or go the non-union route. (this is a subject for a whole article all by itself) If you want to be a union pipeline welder, contact the pipeliners local 798 in Tulsa,OK and let them guide you or change your mind. If you decide to go the non-union route, search job websites like monster and careerbuilder for terms such as "pipeline welder" or "pipeline welding." Learn the welding test requirements by hook or by crook. Call the test supervisor and learn the welding test criteria. Every contractor is likely to administer different welding tests. For example, some require the pipeline welder to cut, bevel, and weld a typical connection. It has been my experience that some weld test supervisors are just looking for a way to fail you. Other weld test supers will actually give tips and advice. Every job is different and there is no one single welding test that is the standard. That is just the way it is. Find a way to practice the test on mock ups that exactly represent what will be required. Practice enough to have confidence that you will be able to pass the welding test. Arrange a pipeline welding test date and show up early. Do not, I repeat ...Do not be cocky or arrogant. The test shop supervisor has you by the short hairs. This is the time to give him the respect he deserves as test shop supervisor and to say yes sir and no sir. Ask questions. For example, Can I use a grinder? Will you fail me for grinding too much? Do you need to inspect the fitup? root pass? hot pass? Learning what will fly and what will not is crucial to passing the welding test. Take your time unless there is a time limit. Relax and try not to be nervous. Keep all arc strikes and grinder marks within the bevel. Weld the joint or joints and chip brush and grind anything that needs it. (if allowed) Pray. You might want to do this one first.

An Overview of the Praxis Series Tests For Teacher Certification

The results of the National Teacher Examination Series are used for certification. Here is an overview of testing requirements for Praxis testing series.

The National Teacher Examination (NTE) otherwise known as the Praxis series, is what is used for teacher licensure and certification. Some teachers can use their instructional certificate to transfer to another state, while others seeking licensure need to start from the initial teacher certification test. Either way, the NTE is a procedure that requires time, preparation and organization.

For the new teacher, however, the key for preparing for the National Teacher Examination is to understand the types of general and specific assessments, and to familiarize yourself with the testing method (i.e. pen or paper or computer). While this may appear as elementary information, a quick overview on the Praxis website shows a huge array of testing procedures, so careful note taking and organization aid in refining your understanding.

An Overview of the Praxis Series Tests For Teacher Certification

For starters, those seeking initial certification must have a BA and completed an accredited and approved teacher education program. The test results are used for the various levels of teacher certification: levels I and II.

Meeting Teacher Testing Requirements

The Praxis series is what many states use as part of their licensure and certification process. As a prospective teacher, you need to find out your state's testing requirements. The requirements for each state vary.

According to the Pennsylvania state testing requirements website, "Individuals applying for an initial certificate (Instructional I and Educational Specialist I) are required to take Pre-Professional Skills (PPST) paper and pencil or Computerized PPST® tests in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics" (website, Praxis series, Pennsylvania).

Certification in instructional areas requires general content knowledge and in-depth subject knowledge. Adding an additional area to a level I certificate requires an additional subject assessment test and completion of an approved program. The same procedure applies for a level II certificate as well.

Praxis Subject Assessment Tests

Each subject assessment area requires registration. Check on subject-specific procedures, such as time and preparation needed, before the testing date, as these differ from those for general knowledge areas.

Praxis Tests and Website Information

In a technological-driven age, individuals surprisingly have a choice whether to take the traditional pen and paper assessment method or opt for the computer version.

It is also worthwhile to read through the procedures to understand what a qualifying score for various areas of reading, writing, mathematics is.

Still lost? The Praxis website offers tips and strategies for preparing for the Praxis exam by helping you develop a study plan. The site also provides sample questions, as well as a study guide just like the SAT. There are also practice tutorials you can learn from before the date of your Praxis test.
