How to Pass the Linux+ Certification Exam

Linux+ certification is the brain child of the Computing Technology Industry Association which is commonly known as CompTIA. The Linux+ certification is termed as a vendor neutral certification exam as it is not one that complies with a particular retailer's software or hardware. This exam is considered to be the most different type of examination when we talk about the Information technology industry. There are lots of certified programs of IT companies like Novell's Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) certification, Red Hat's Certified Engineer Certification (RHCE) etc that are dealing with a particular vendor's hardware or software.

An individual's knowledge and skill level on the Linux operating system is tested when one takes the Linux+ certification exam. The certificate holder will be an expert in software configurations, management of Linux-based systems, its servers and security, understanding file permissions and indicating knowledge of user administration. All the aspects pertaining to Linux operating system has to be learnt by the individual if he or she wishes to pass the Linux+ certification program.

There is no doubt that a candidate who has passed the Linux+ certificate exam will be able to master the skills and knowledge of Linux system and will be a 6-12 month expert Linux system administrator. The Linux+ exam has to be completed in the required time that will be made electronically available on the computer. A candidate will get 90 minutes to answer 98 questions. The exam interface is very much user-friendly and only one question at a time will be displayed on the computer screen. Once the exam is completed by the candidate, the computer will start evaluating the individual's paper and the score sheet will be immediately delivered to the candidate in the form of a print out.

How to Pass the Linux+ Certification Exam

An individual will have to score a minimum of 675 marks out of 900 marks in order to pass the Linux+ certification exam. There score print out will guide the candidate on the answers missed by him or her in case the candidate could not achieve the minimum marks required for guaranteeing a pass. This will be very helpful for candidates willing to retake the examination.

There is a published material available on the set of objectives pertaining to Linux+ certification that is released by CompTIA. The objectives released by CompTIA will give details of what information that 6-12 months experienced Linux system administrator must be aware off and ways to use it to full effect.

How To Become a Computer Technician

So you want to be a Computer Technician, but you don't know how? Well guess what, I am going to tell you how.

First things first, I am blunt and to the point. I hate typing and thinking about grammar, that is why I went into the Technology field.

I have over 10 years experience in web design, computer networking, hardware, software, java programming, Apple & IBM (pc) format computers, telephone work, home theatres etc, etc, etc, & I make a lot of money doing. So basically I know what I am talking about & I am going to give you some advice that took me 10 long, hard years to learn.

How To Become a Computer Technician

1. MOST IMPORTANT: LEARN how to find the right answers. This can be true for ANY field, ANY person works in. You do not need to know everything, and guess what, if you spent the next 10 years reading, going to school & obtaining certifications, you still wouldn't know all there is to know in the field of Technology. But if you can figure out what resources will help you find a solution for you the fastest, then you are on your way.

2. Go to school and/or get certifications. Of course you need to learn about computers, software, hardware etc to become a computer technician. Find something that fits you, something that makes you excited to go. 4 year schools are not for every one, so make sure they are right for you if you choose to go. In my 4 years in college the only thing I learned to do is program at Level II in Java (a blind monkey could program at that level) and drink a lot of beer. 2 year schools are good because the get straight to the point about the actual jobs you will be doing out in the REAL world. (I was offered a teaching position at one of these 2 year schools at the ripe old age of 25, I laughed in their face & said no because of the salary they were offering). Certifications are important regardless if you get a 2 or 4 year degree. They tell other people that have NO CLUE about technology that you, indeed have a clue about technology

Did you follow that?

A couple of certifications that I highly recommend are the A+, Networking + and any Microsoft Support Certification.

3. Be patient, with yourself and the people you work with. You will always be learning if you become a computer technician. The average lifespan for a particular model of technology (ie computers) is about 2 years. Meaning as soon as you buy it, it is OLD. Things change everyday in Technology and you have to keep up with it!

4. Have a Positive Attitude! Remember, when people call you or you are dispatched out to work on someone's computer, TV etc, they usually are frustrated. Most people will try to fix the issue themselves before calling anyone because they are cheap. By the time you or I get there they are ready to cry. A positive and friendly attitude will go an EXTREMELY LONG WAY. You will be their savior and they will tell all their friends about you. This point might be the most difficult, especially in Technology because not very many people understand how it works and because our lives are so dependent on it.

That is it, 4 simple steps.

Can you handle it?

These are the 4 things I have tried to do over the last 10 years. Trust me, I am no genius, not by a long shot. But I figured out how to find the right answer for the problem, combined with an education, some certifications and the right attitude, I have people knocking down my door for my services.

Read this article a couple of times until this info really sinks in. This advice works so use it!

Stop sitting there and get busy!

For more information on How To Become a Computer Technician, check out a couple of this sites I have listed in my bio, those will help.

Good Luck!

CPT 99213 - Learning the Basics of E & M Coding Guidelines

CPT 99213 is defined as: Office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of an established patient, which requires at least two of these three key components:

• An expanded problem focused history;
• An expanded problem focused examination;
• Medical decision making of low complexity usually, or straight forward as the presenting problem(s) are of low to moderate severity.

A physician will be left with the options of billing E/M for either code 99211 thru 99215 for an established patient. Usually, the correct level of CPT code (ignoring coding by time) can often be narrowed down to two or three choices by a proper evaluation of the patient and documenting the office visit correctly. The usual choices that remain for the physician at the end are 99212, 99213, 99214.

CPT 99213 - Learning the Basics of E & M Coding Guidelines

There might be times when the physician wants to put a code down without really understanding the complexities of the coding system and that will end up leaving money on the table which we are trying to avoid.

For example:

If an established patient presents for a second follow-up of a single complaint such as chronic cough and it is decided that it is stable or improving, a CPT 99212 may be warranted.

However, in the evaluation of the patient, if the provider takes an expanded history and the physical exam is re-evaluated to include performance and documentation of at least six bulleted elements from one or more organ systems or body areas. Then it will qualify as an expanded problem focused exam. That being said, if your History and Physical Exam meet criteria, then the Medical Decision Making is not needed in the calculation of the level and you may capture your 99213.

Remember, in an established patient, you need only meet two out of three criteria; History, Physical Exam and Medical Decision Making to qualify.

That being said, we certainly will be making a medical decision, but according to the 1997 guidelines (which I prefer to use for a variety of reasons) we capture our 99213 as long as the medical necessity is apparent.

In another example, If the same patient has a single straightforward new complaint to discuss with the examiner, during the follow up for the chronic cough, such as an orthopedic complaint that is worsening, a CPT 99213 and even a CPT 99214 depending upon the complete exam fulfilling two out of the three main components (that being History Physical Exam and Medical Decision Making (MDM) may be appropriate. Of course, medical necessity is required to substantiate the level of service billed.

As a physician, if you consider billing by time then a 99213 requires an average of visit of 15 minutes in which at least 7.5 minutes or 50% of your time was spent in counseling or coordinating care.

Remember, CPT 99213 requires documentation of at least one system when you compare it with CPT code 99212 and an expanded problem focused (EPF) history is required as well for a 99213.

The revenue captured from properly documenting a 99213 over a 99212 can add up to thousands of dollars annually. You want to make sure you are properly documenting your medical records and capturing the revenue you deserve based on the work you are performing. You do the work, get paid for what you do.

How Long Will it Take to Get My Pharmacy Tech Certification?

As most people know, a health care related career is some of the most important work a person can do. Whether a doctor, a nurse, or a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, health care workers strive to keep people healthy. And what could be more important than that?

For those looking into a health care career, the position of Pharmacy Technician may appeal to you. Depending on the workplace, a Pharmacy Technician has a variety of duties and responsibilities, from counting out pills to corresponding with customers, and each duty is important. Even routine tasks, such as labeling bottles, can be of life-or-death importance-- as, of course, it's imperative that patients are given the correct medications in the correct doses.

The hourly earnings of a Pharmacy Technician also vary from workplace to workplace. Pharmacy Techs who earn the most generally work in hospitals, where they earn an average of hourly. The lowest-earning Pharmacy Technicians work in health or personal care stores, with about a .50 hourly wage. Obviously, where you choose to work as a Pharmacy Technician matters. And because hospitals and other highly specialized locations pay best, they also look for the best Technicians-- that is, Pharmacy Techs with certification.

How Long Will it Take to Get My Pharmacy Tech Certification?

Training to Be a Pharmacy Technician

While some smaller drug stores, etc., simply provide on-the-job training to untrained Pharmacy Technicians, most higher-paying locations look for Pharmacy Technicians with formal training and certification. To obtain this, most aspiring Pharmacy Techs attend online or classroom training courses. When choosing a Pharmacy Tech course, there are several things to keep in mind, such as length of course, depth of subject matter, and quality of the course (accreditation).

How Long Will it Take?

Most Pharmacy Technician training courses run from about six months to a year, depending on the course. In that time, you will learn the skills required to operate a pharmacy, follow correct pharmaceutical procedures, provide the correct drug dosages, and assist the pharmacist in administrative tasks. This course also helps to prepare you for your PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) exam or ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians).

While there are very few current federal and state laws governing the need for Pharmacy Tech certification, having a PTCB or ExCPT certification is becoming the standard. Passing one or more of these examinations is of key importance.

What if I Need to Finish Faster?

If you don't have the six months to a year it takes to complete a Pharmacy Tech training course, there are several options available. As the certification is more important to potential employers than the formal training, you can choose to focus your time on studying for the test. You can do this either by studying the test materials, or taking one of the variety of short "crash course" cramming sessions offered by some schools. Most of these courses are from a few hours to several days, and are designed to give you all the information you need to pass you PTCB or ExCPT exams.

The Basic Requirements for MCSE Certification

The Microsoft Systems Engineer Certificate known as the MCSE is the basic fundamental certification program for an IT working in any Microsoft environment. The Certification concept has been developed in the rapidly changing and expanding field of computer technology to bring some order. When a person earns certification, employers and potential employers become confident that a certain standard threshold of expertise has been attained.

MCSE Certification is often a starting point for more advanced and specialized certifications. The basic requirements include normally at least one year of experience in the field implementing or administering a network operating system. The experience can also be in a client operating system or designing a network infrastructure. In order to earn the certificate, the candidate must pass a serious of examinations. There are four basic exams required that cover operating systems. Another exam tests and gives proof of expertise in design skills. Finally, two elective exams must be completed. These exams may be selected from a list of choices that include such diverse topics as security and implementation of various operating systems.

MCSE Training is conducted in several ways. Many programs can be done online with the use of study guides. This method of training has all the advantages and disadvantages of all distance learning. The training can be conducted on the students own schedule with a minimum of lost time and expense. However, despite the high quality of the study guides and the aid of computer training videos, much hands on work and the assistance of trained instructors is missing.

The Basic Requirements for MCSE Certification

Another method of preparing for and passing the required exams is by attending a MSCE boot camp. This is an intensive training course that prepares the students for each exam, and also administers them. The boot camps usually provide both lodging and meals. They borrow the name from the military boot camp. This is not because of the strict discipline associated with the military but rather because of the intensive nature of the training. The boot camps are not intended as vacations. Training is done daily, and for long hours in an attempt to get the trainee prepared for the examination as quickly as possible. Although this method is also designed to minimize lost time during training, it is not inexpensive.

It is important to understand that although the basic requirements of the MCSE Certificate may seem rather difficult, the MCSE Certificate is rapidly becoming a basic requirement itself for a successful career in the competitive field of Information Technology.

Cooper Institute Certification Review - Cooper Institute Personal Trainer Certification

The Cooper Institute (CI) was founded by the guy who wrote the book "Aerobics" in 1968 and started the whole world on this fitness craze. Since most of us are too young to remember a time before physical fitness was a common factor in our lives, it's interesting to see how much Dr. Cooper's book changed the way we live.

CI is located in Texas and runs many of their education courses in Dallas. If you're not local to Dallas (or willing to take a vacation), then their education programs may be of little help for you. Even their DVD course has a 'hands on' component that's given for a day and a half at their Dallas headquarters.

NCCA
The Cooper Institute Personal Trainer Certification, also known as "CI-CPT" is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Therefore it qualifies as one of our premier certifications around. It's accreditation is relatively recent, however that isn't a negative at all. The NCCA takes so long to permit new members, it's a very positive sign that CI has made it through the tough process.

Cooper Institute Certification Review - Cooper Institute Personal Trainer Certification

Certifications Available
For our purposes, we're interested in the CI-CPT designation...or the Cooper Institute Certified Personal Trainer certification. (This use to be known as the CI-PTr, in case you see old references, it's the same thing.)

Eligibility
The eligibility isn't too difficult. You must be 18 years old, like all the others. You must have your CPR training from a trusted organization. By trusted, they mean American Red Cross. Online Certifications are given the standard "Not Accepted, No Exceptions" answer; so don't even try to use that as your entry pass!

Guess what, that's it! Really. As you noticed, you do NOT need to pass one of their classes in order to take the exam. Which is a nice deal compared to a few of the certifications that want you to pay them for classes and materials you may not need just to be eligible to sit for the exam.

Exam
Well, the one problem with the exam is its only given in Dallas, TX. So if you aren't going to be in Dallas on your exam date (which is around twice a month), you aren't going to be Cooper Institute Certified.

Which is really too bad, as the CI Certification is a good certification that's well respected in the area and slowly getting more popular around the country. Until they start to branch out (if they even intend to...), it'll probably be more of a regionally recognized certification. That doesn't mean that walking into a gym with a CI-CPT certification will be a negative, but you should be prepared to describe what CI is and have a reference for them to check out.

Costs
Disregarding the travel cost if you are out of town (they do have a hotel at the Institute!), the certification isn't prohibitively expensive. To take the exam it costs 0 to sit for the exam. You can even register 48 hours before the exam. (It's given twice a month and the dates are known for about a year out)

The retake fee is a tad bit less, 5 to retake the exam again. You get a year to retake the exam at that rate. I don't believe there is a minimum wait period...other than the 2+ week wait between exams.

Workshops
There are two 'workshops' that Cooper Institute offers, both are non-mandatory to sit for the exam, but very helpful in preparation for the exam.

Personal Training Education Workshop

Personal Training DVD with Live Training

They both cost over 0 and you have to be in Dallas to participate.

Validity
The CI-CPT certification is valid for three years from when you pass the test. That's a good period of time, since most are for 2 years.

CEC's
Like all NCCA accredited certifications, the Cooper Institute requires mandatory Continuing Education Credits before you can renew after the three year certification. They expect their certificate holders to stay current with at least 30 hours of the new information in the industry.

To make sure you take all the right courses, they suggest you check their website (http://www.cooperinstitute.org)

Renewal

Renewal isn't really that difficult. Here's what you need to do:

1. Complete a Renewal Form

2. Pay the Renewal Fee (.50, with an extra if you need to extend an extra 6 months to get all your CEC's completed)

3. Submit proof of your minimum 30 hours of continual education over the last 3 years.

That's it! It's really not too bad with no ridiculous requirements or anything that is just a sham payment back to Certification Company like a few organizations do.

Acceptance / Popularity
The popularity and value of the CI-CPT is much greater in the Dallas / Texas area than in, say, Maine. It's seen as a regional certification, not because it's worse than an ACE or NCSF, but because it's just locally administered and therefore harder to find outside of the immediate area.

Summary
In the Texas region, there are few better certifications than the CI. It's very well respected in the area and has a TON of resources for local trainers. In fact, it's a fantastic set up for the Texas area, such that I wish I had that type of support in my area from my organizations.

Until CI starts to branch outside of its immediate area, it's going to be a limited option for the most of us. However, if you're in the area, I think you should definitely check it out. Keep in mind the entire experience - not just the exam - and support network they have in the Dallas area. You may find it is your best option by far.
